Immediate Post-Surgery Care
Please ensure a responsible adult drives you home after your procedure and stays with you for at least the first 24 hours. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day, and avoid any strenuous activities, lifting, or bending. Giving your body time to rest is essential for healing.
Managing Discomfort and Swelling
It is normal to experience some swelling and discomfort after surgery. To manage this, apply an ice pack to the outside of your face near the surgical area for 20 minutes, then remove it for 20 minutes. Continue this cycle for the first 24 to 48 hours to help reduce swelling. You may also take prescription or over-the-counter pain relievers as directed by your surgeon to keep you comfortable.
Bleeding Control
Some minor bleeding after surgery is to be expected. To control it, gently bite on the provided gauze pads for 30-60 minutes after your procedure. If bleeding continues, you may replace the gauze as needed. To minimize bleeding, keep your head elevated and avoid spitting, smoking, or using a straw for the first few days, as these actions can disrupt the healing site.
Eating and Drinking
Nourishing your body is an important part of healing. For the first few days, focus on a diet of soft foods and clear liquids, such as smoothies, yogurt, and soups. It is important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids but avoid alcohol and caffeine. As you heal, be sure to avoid foods that are hot, spicy, or crunchy, as they can irritate the surgical area.
Oral Hygiene
Keeping your mouth clean is vital for preventing infection. You may gently brush your teeth but be sure to avoid the surgical site. We may prescribe a special mouth rinse, or you can use a warm saltwater rinse (one-half teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) to gently cleanse the area after meals, starting the day after your surgery.
Medications
Your surgeon may prescribe medications to aid in your recovery, such as antibiotics or pain relievers. Please take all medications exactly as directed and be sure to complete the full course of any antibiotics to prevent infection. If you have any questions about your prescriptions, our team is here to help.

Your healing journey is important to us, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
