About Dr. Munk
Since a young age, Dr. Munk has had an interest in the medical field, eventually deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an oral surgeon. He is committed to patient advocacy and excellence in surgical care, ensuring that each individual receives the highest standard of treatment.
Dr. Munk grew up in Idaho, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. After spending more than a decade away pursuing his education, he is thrilled to return to his home state and serve the Treasure Valley and beyond. His deep-rooted connection to the community fuels his passion to provide compassionate and expert surgical care to his patients.
Dr. Munk has extensive experience in both routine and complex surgical procedures. He performs a broad scope of surgical procedures, including extractions, bone grafting, dental implants, reconstructive jaw surgery, and trauma surgery. He has a particular interest in orthognathic surgery and dental implantology.
Education and Residency
Dr. Munk completed his undergraduate studies at Utah State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. His surgical training began at MetroHealth Medical Center, a leading Level 1 trauma center in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he trained at several prestigious institutions, including:
- MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the largest and busiest Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
- The Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center
- Children’s National Hospital, the only pediatric Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
- The National Institutes of Health
His training encompassed the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Throughout his residency, he was actively involved with the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, advocating for patients and the specialty at the national level.
Outside of Residency
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Munk enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Emily. His hobbies include reading, attending and watching sporting events, traveling, and cooking. Whether exploring new destinations or perfecting a favorite recipe, Dr. Munk values the balance between his career and personal interests, bringing enthusiasm and dedication to all aspects of his life.
